"I'm not all that funny, am painfully shy, and have learned that i am most earnest and well understood when i'm in my head. on or off stage. More than anything, i want to be on the road meeting new people and places while doing what i do best, so every time i come home, i am more." With a sensitivity towards the interplay of Sound, Energy, & Emotion, Lui's artistry is fierce with utmost self-respect & musicianship.

Inspired by a lonely childhood, she found a friend in herself, "My mother started me on piano when i was 4, and never let me have playmates, I remember playing piano and riding my red bike in circles a lot. I had my favorite cassettes and sang along to a casio 2-deck, pretending to be a performer all the time." Through aural imitation, she learned vowel placements & tone production on her own. "After 7 years of that, anyone would learn a lot. I just happen to find Happy in my head." When in school, Lui was a class clown in all subjects except Music. Her keen ear was noticed, and was even picked to conduct her class choir at the age of 9.

After immigrating to California in 1990, she continued full musical involvement through college with a Music degree from San Diego State University.

Lui officially launched her solo career in 2004, and have since become an awarded Performer/Songwriter, touring West/East Coast, Sydney, Europe, & Canada. Opened for Kate Earl, Vienna Teng, Sylvie Lewis, Jim Bianco, Ernie Halter, Jay Nash, Eddie from Ohio, Lisa Sanders, among many others.

May 2005, Lui released her full-length debut, Teargirl, recorded with an organic approach: tablas, horns, harp, harmonium, toy piano, organ pedals. no digital editing nor pitch correcting.
Barkentine, her follow-up album, was released in 2007. Low budget - high concept, it is a return to "sound & space" production. With a mobile studio and mini-disc recorder, they recorded in classrooms, churches, recital halls, random houses, and on ships that creak and where children sing. Sea Shanties, choirs, bells, and so much vibe, she plays 14 instruments in addition writing choir and string arrangements.

Lui has toured in east & west coast, London, Sydney, Canada, and Europe next year. She has appeared at venues such as The Belly Up (SD), The Mint, Room 5 (LA), Folk Alliance,  also series of film festivals where her two music videos debuted.
